Never Caught Out is an independent guide to getting UK households ready for power cuts, storms, floods and other disruption. It is not a government service.
Who we are
Never Caught Out is a small independent guide. We are a publisher, not an emergency service, and we do not claim expert or official status. Our job is to read the official advice carefully, explain it in plain English, and point you back to the source.
Our independence
Never Caught Out is not affiliated with, endorsed by or funded by the UK Government, the Be Ready campaign, Ready Scotland, NI Direct, the Welsh Government, the NHS, the Met Office, any emergency service, any energy or water company, or Ofgem.
We do not use government logos or crests. Where we quote official guidance, we say so and credit it under the Open Government Licence.
How we make money
At the moment, we don’t. This site has no adverts, no affiliate links and no sponsored content. If that changes, we will say so clearly on this page and label any commercial link where it appears. Commercial links will never change our safety advice.
What we will and won’t do
- We link to the official sources behind every guide, and say when we last checked them.
- We don’t invent statistics, ratings or prices.
- We don’t give medical advice. For medicines and health, we point you to your pharmacist, GP or the NHS.
- We try to be calm and practical. Getting ready is about being able to manage, not about fear.
