Privacy

We use Google Analytics to count visits, but only if you accept analytics cookies. There are no adverts and no advertising tracking, and the site works the same whether you accept or not.

What we collect

Nothing that identifies you by name. We don’t use advertising, tracking pixels or social media widgets. Our fonts are stored on our own site, so loading a page doesn’t contact a font company.

If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics to count visits (see Cookies and analytics below). If you reject them, or make no choice, nothing is loaded from Google and no analytics cookies are set.

Like every website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes basic technical information, such as IP addresses, to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse. We don’t use that information to profile visitors. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Cookies and analytics

When you first visit, we ask whether you accept analytics cookies. You can choose Accept or Reject. Nothing is loaded from Google and no analytics cookies are set unless you choose Accept. If you choose Reject, or ignore the question, every page and tool works exactly the same.

If you accept, we use Google Analytics 4 to see which guides are useful and how people find the site, so we can improve it. We are the controller, and Google (Google Ireland Limited) processes the data on our behalf. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. We have turned off Google signals and advertising features, and we don’t use the data for advertising or share it for that purpose. Google may process data outside the UK under its standard data protection safeguards; see Google’s privacy policy and Google’s data processing terms.

Analytics reports are kept for 14 months and then deleted by Google. Your choice itself is saved in your browser’s local storage (ncu-consent) for 12 months, so we don’t ask on every page. It is not a cookie and it is not sent to us.

Changing your mind or withdrawing consent

You can change your choice or withdraw your consent at any time, as easily as you gave it. Use the Cookie settings link at the foot of every page and choose Reject. We then stop analytics straight away and delete the Google Analytics cookies on this site. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or use Google’s opt-out add-on.

Your household plan

The household plan saves what you type in your browser’s local storage, on your device only. It is never sent to us or anyone else, including Google Analytics. You can delete it at any time with the “Clear plan” button, or by clearing your browser’s site data. Anyone else who uses the same device and browser could see it, so bear that in mind on a shared computer.

The calculators

The water and power bank calculators run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is stored or sent.

Offline use

If your browser supports it, the site saves copies of its pages on your device so you can read the guides during a power cut or without signal. This is a normal browser cache and contains no personal information.

If you email us

If you email us at [email protected], we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and what you write. We use it only to reply and to fix the site, and we delete it when it is no longer needed. We do not add you to any mailing list.

App waitlist

The app waitlist form is not live yet. Nothing typed into it is sent or stored. When it goes live, marketing emails will only be sent if you tick the separate, optional box.

Your rights

You have rights over your personal information, including the right to access it, to have it corrected or erased, and to object. To use them, email [email protected]. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Who we are

This site is run by its owner, who is responsible for any personal information you send us. To ask about your information, or anything else, email [email protected] or see our contact page.
